Dubai will start charging taxes from tourists

The crown prince of the Emirate of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rasheed Al Maktoum signed the decree about introduction of «Tourist dirham». It is a question of a new tax which tourists will have to pay since March 31, 2014
The tourist’s tax will be taken from all tourists, irrespective of the type of accommodation — hotels, apart-hotels, guest houses, etc. The money received from a new tax, will be directed on emirate advance in the tourist market, trade and tourism stimulation, and also, partially, on the EXPO-2020 organization. The amount of tax will make 7-20 dirham for a night depending on category of a hotel.
The head of the Russian representation of Department of tourism and commercial marketing of the Government of Dubai Sergey Kanayev confirmed that the tax will be imposed. «We still don’t know, in what form the tax will be raised, whether it will be included in the cost of accommodation or will be paid by tourists on a place», — Sergey Kanayev reported.
There is no info at travel agencies as well. «We interrogated our partners in Dubai. All of them reported that at the moment exact information on a tax isn’t available. Now in no hotel in the emirate additional tax isn’t raised», — the area manager of the United Arab Emirates of the Russian Express company Tatyana Ovcharova says. Meanwhile, participants of the market consider that introduction of a tax won’t have negative impact on a tourist stream to the region. However, the most convenient form of calculation tour operators call tax inclusion in accommodation cost.
